Description:

PL 90-170 is a law passed by Congress in 1967 that ensured the funds for research and training in the field of adapted physical education. Through this law the Bureau for Education of the Handicapped(BEH) was founded and empowered to take control of the movement of adapted physical education. Between 1967 and 1986 the BEH was able to allocate a little over $22 million dollars to be used for training programs linked to adapted physical activity. This law greatly helped the advancement of adapted physical activity in elementary and secondary schools all over the country. The law kick started the movement to consciously help children with disabilities learn motor skills and coordination through physical education.
