On March 17, 1939 the first NCAA mens basketball tournament began in Evanston Illinois. Only eight teams competed for the championship and there were only two rounds of offsite playoffs before the "Final Two" game was held at Northwestern. On March 27th, the Oregon Ducks and Ohio State Buckeyes met in the first NCAA championship game. The Oregon Duck won 46 to 33. Winning their first and only Men's Basketball Championship in school history.
